A chance for thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday followed by potential record-high temperature are what National Weather Service forecasters anticipate for the Carson City region this week.
Moisture and instability will increase Monday with thunderstorms possible over the Sierra from South Lake Tahoe to into Mono County. The potential for thunderstorms will build northward into Sierra, Plumas and Lassen counties Tuesday and Wednesday, and along Highway 395 in Western Nevada, according to the weather service.
High pressure over the Pacific will begin to move over the Sierra and Western Nevada on Thursday, with decreasing thunderstorm chances and hot conditions through the end of the week.
Afternoon highs could rise into the 90s to near 100 across Western Nevada, with readings in the 80s to near 90 for the Eastern Sierra and Lake Tahoe Basin. Temperatures could exceed record highs from Thursday through the weekend, according to the weather service.
