UPDATE: A vehicle chase in Carson City on Saturday afternoon involving a stolen car ended with a crash at Highway 50 and Fairview and two injured being air lifted by Care Flight. A third person was taken by ambulance. All three have non life-threatening injuries, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed.
Two Care Flight helicopters landed on Highway 50 and took two of the injured to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Two suspects in a Mazda Miata that was reported stolen out of Sparks, crashed into an unsuspecting vehicle occupied by a woman, Sheriff Furlong said.
The pursuit began shortly after 4 p.m. on Robinson Street and exceeded more than 70 mph from Saliman Road to Highway 50.
It ended at around 4:15 p.m. with the crash and a woman running from the scene who was detained by officers. The driver of the vehicle that allegedly caused the crash was alert and agreed to have his blood drawn, according to deputies on the scene. Furlong said the two others injured — the passenger in the stolen vehicle and the motorist hit, were alert and conscious at the time they were taken to the hospital.
Both vehicles sustained severe damage. The Nevada Highway Patrol and the Carson City Fire Department also responded.
Highway 50 at Fairview was shut down and re-routed because the lanes were blocked from the crash and subsequent helicopter landings. It re-opened at 5:40 p.m.
