Carson City and Virginia City are two of more than 100 U.S. cities nominated by Benjamin Moore Paints for a complete repaint of downtown, officials announced Friday.
Benjamin Moore launched its “Main Street Matters” initiative May 22. In the contest, consumers around the country can cast their vote online and pick which 20 U.S. Main Streets should be revitalized.
In a news release, Carson City Planning Director Lee Plemel said the initiative is timed well with what is going on in downtown Carson City.
“The downtown businesses are more organized than ever and looking for ways to make the downtown more attractive,” said Plemel. “This could be a great opportunity to draw attention to what Carson City and our downtown have to offer.”
The Downtown Business Association has recently approached the City about adding more amenities, such as benches downtown, and a group called Downtown 20/20 has recently formed in an effort to attract more visitors downtown.
If selected as one of the 20 cities, Benjamin Moore will provide the paint and supplies needed for façades, porches, railings, shutters, and other building exterior trims, and will hire professional painters to complete the work.
The public can learn more about the Main Street Matters initiative and vote for their favorite town at the website www.paintwhatmatters.com. Voting goes through June 30, according to the Main Street Matters website.
