A 39-year-old man faces felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly swung two hammers at a motel clerk Saturday night in Carson City.
Ryan Schroeder of Carson City also faces felony charges of burglary and probation violation. He's being held without bail on the probation violation charge and $40,000 on the other two charges. He was arrested at 10:59 p.m. at Carson and Ninth streets, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy.
Officers were dispatched to a motel in the 2800 block of South Carson Street after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival officers met with the motel clerk who said Schroeder came into the lobby and began to yell and swing a hammer at him.
The clerk said the suspect then went to his van outside and retrieved a second hammer, walked back into the lobby and began swinging both hammers at him. The clerk locked himself in the bathroom for safety and the man left.
Carson City dispatch put out an attempt to locate the man, including a vehicle description, which was later found in the rear parking lot of another motel. Officers observed two hammers and a bottle of vodka on the rear floor of the vehicle.
Schroeder was found and detained by officers in the area of Carson and 9th streets. He was very upset, yelling and screaming at officers, and made numerous statements saying he went to the motel to find his wife and that it was a misunderstanding. He was taken to jail and at 11:10 p.m and took a preliminary breath test where he blew a .22, the report states.
In other arrests:
— Two Carson City men were arrested Saturday, 6:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of Woodside Drive on felony charges of violation of parole conditions. Arrested were Christopher Francisco Piche and Irvin Garcia, both 24.
According to the arrest report, officers with the Tri-County Gang Unit were patrolling the area of Stanton Arms apartments when they saw a black Chevy Blazer they recognized as belonging to a gang member, in the rear of the complex. Officers recognized also the driver as being a gang member and upon seeing the officer he hid his face, according to the arrest report. A registration on the vehicle returned to Piche. The male passenger, Garcia, then exited the vehicle and began to walk toward the apartment. Officers began a consensual conversation with the man who identified himself as Garcia.
Dispatch advised both men were on State of Nevada Parole and Probation supervision and both had clauses that there would be no contact or association with gang members. Both men are members of a gang and they were co-defendants in their original crime that sent them to prison, according to the arrest report.
Dispatch advised Nevada Parole and Probation to arrest both men for violation of parole conditions.
Both are being held without bail awaiting a hearing.
— A 41-year-old Carson City woman, Linda Dawn Breckenridge, was arrested Saturday, 4:14 p.m. in the 2000 block of Hawaii Circle on a warrant for suspicion of prescription drug fraud. The warrant was issued June 4, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. She is being held on $10,000 bail.
— A 27-year-old Carson City woman, Ligia Maricela Funes-Arias, was arrested Saturday, June 7, 10:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Green Court on a felony warrant, unlawful use of federal food stamps. The warrant was issued May 30, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $2,500.
— A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested June 7, 11:17 p.m. in the 3400 block of Sherman Lane on a gross misdemeanor charge of destruction of property, a sheriff's office patrol car, and misdemeanor charges of violation of a suspended sentence. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the area on a domestic dispute call, an argument between a father and son.
Dispatch advised the 43-year-old man was on Alternative Sentencing with a no drinking clause. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .122 and was arrested. As deputies attempted to handcuff the man, he pushed back against the officer and tried to kick him, the arrest report states. The man was taken to the gain control of him.
The handcuffs were reapplied and the man was put into a patrol vehicle. The man then called deputies "niggers" and began kicking the rear passenger door of the patrol unit, kicking it hard enough that it created a gap in the seal of the door, causing it to become slightly bowed. He was taken to jail. Bail: $4,637.
— A 36-year-old Carson City man was booked into Carson City Jail Saturday, 6:30 p.m. on gross misdemeanor warrant charge of possession of burglary tools. The warrant was issued May 8, 2014.
— A 31-year-old Carson City woman, Kristina Marie Benavidez, was booked into Carson City Jail Friday, June 6, on a felony warrant, unlawful sales and possession of food stamps. Bail: $2,500.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
