A spring storm will move into the Sierra and western Nevada Monday and Tuesday, which may improve conditions for firefighters battling the Hunter Falls Fire west of Reno.
The storm will bring increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms to the region with moderate to heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. The heaviest showers may develop over Nevada, which would lead to higher precipitation totals than the Sierra.
Rainfall totals up to 0.50 inch are possible, but heavy slow moving showers could produce higher amounts. Snow levels with this system should remain near 8,000 feet, though could be as low as 7,000 feet early Tuesday.
Accumulating snows up to 6 inches are possible in the higher Sierra above 8,000 feet. Slick roads and hazardous travel conditions are possible over the higher passes, especially those normally closed in the winter, which includes Highways 4, 89, 108 and 120.
