The Carson City Symphony Association presents an intimate evening of Music, Conversation, Champagne, and Dessert on Friday, April 25, 7:30 p.m., at a private home in Jacks Valley, south of Carson City.

General admission is $25; Symphony Assoc. members $20; and youth age 16 and under free. Tickets are available at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at CCSymphony.com, or reserve by calling 775-883-4154. Address and directions will be provided with tickets.

Violinist Andrew Sords will perform a program featuring Czardas, by Vittorio Monti, and Salut D'Amour by Edward Elgar. The czardas is a national Hungarian folk dance, characterized by several changes in tempo, from slow to extremely fast. Monti's virtuosic czardas has seven variations in tempo. Elgar's piece, also known as Liebesgruss (Love's Greeting), was written as an engagement present to his fiancée. Carson City Conductor David Bugli will accompany Sords.

American composer Carson Cooman will discuss his new work, Sagebrush Celebration, commissioned to commemorate Carson City Symphony's 30th season and Nevada's 150th anniversary. He will describe the rugged character of the piece, named for Nevada's state flower, and how he derived the main theme from the name "Carson City."

Bugli will discuss his work Ruby Mountain Reflections, which incorporates themes of Native Americans, gold, ranching, railroads, and alpine lakes. It was written for and performed by the Ruby Mountain Symphony in 2012, and will be played by Carson City Symphony on April 27.

The April 25 talk and recital, a stand-alone event, is also an introduction to the soloist and music of Carson City Symphony's orchestra concert to be held on Sunday. April 27. For more information, call the Symphony at 775-883-4154 or see CCSymphony.com.
