Fans from all over the world are attending the Bonanza Round Up which comes back to the Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Virginia City areas June 26-29. Some of the countries represented are England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, Chile and Canada to name a few.
"Bonanza" was one of the most popular TV westerns that aired from 1959 through 1973, and continues in reruns today. The "Bonanza" theme song is one of the most recognizable.
The show was created by David Dortort and starred Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, Mitch Vogel, Victor Sen Yung and David Carnary. Mitch Vogel who played Jamie Cartwright on the show is expected to attend the convention. Sadly Mr. Greene, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Blocker, Mr. Landon and Mr. Sen Yung have all passed away, but members of their families have attended in the past.
Starting in 1999, "Bonanza" fans held conventions in Lake Tahoe. Bonanza’s last Nevada convention was in 2009. After the 2009 convention, a new committee was formed and the new “Round Up” was held in September 2011 in Burbank, Calif. The show was filmed in and around Burbank and Hollywood, as well as Nevada. With the “Round Up” being held in Burbank, many of the older actors that are unable to travel were able to attend.
Now, by popular demand, the “Round Up” will be taking place again the Lake Tahoe area with Carson City and the Gold Dust Hotel as our hosts. The event runs Thursday, June 26 through Sunday June 29th, 2014.
In addition to panels and guest stars who worked directly with the show, the “Round Up” features a 1959s Night, a Casino Night, a Character Night, an afternoon outdoor fair, buffets, games, contests, talent show, a trip to Virginia City, an auction and the Dixie Cruise and more.
Some of the Round Up’s guests are Don Collier (who appeared in 5 episodes, and is best known as Sam Butler on Dortort’s other show, The High Chaparral, Charlotte Stewart who guest starred in two episodes of "Bonanza" and was best known as Miss Beadle on Little House on the Prairie, Michael Dante, who has 30 films to his credit in addition to his appearance on "Bonanza" and is best known as Custer in the "Crazy Horse" series, local Carson City resident Ray Mazy who was David Canary’s stunt double, along with Mitch Vogel who played Jamie Cartwright in the final years, and his stunt double, Rick Drown.
