Local residents and visitors of all ages and from all walks of life are invited to enjoy a free Thanksgiving dinner at the Carson Nugget on Thursday, November 28, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event marks 59 years of the Carson Nugget providing a Thanksgiving meal for our community. New this year, the Carson Nugget is joining forces with FISH (Friends in Service Helping) to be able to share expenses and efforts in order to provide more meals and expand the experience. Diners will also enjoy being served by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong, and Carson Nugget General Manager Star Anderson as well as many other notable members of the community.

“Thanksgiving is our traditional time to reflect on what we have to be grateful for--what better way to do that than to break bread with our friends and neighbors while also meeting new people? This event celebrates the true spirit of our original forefathers’ shared meal.

Carson Nugget is honored to provide a delicious, fresh-cooked Thanksgiving meal, and we are thrilled that this year FISH is partnering with us in these efforts. We welcome everyone to join us at this community-wide event,” said Star Anderson, General Manager of Carson Nugget.

Last year, 800 people from Carson City and surrounding areas were served a free Thanksgiving meal at this event, with over 1,000 expected this year. All community members and visitors are encouraged to attend this no-cost dinner which offers traditional, fresh-cooked Thanksgiving fare that includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams with marshmallow glaze, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, assorted pies and beverages.

The partnership with the Carson Nugget and FISH enables the event to surpass its 1,000 meals-eaten goal. An event of this size takes significant resources—both in purchasing food items as well as labor, and it could not happen without the more than 50 volunteers that help prepare and serve the meal. “FISH is excited to participate in this exceptional Thanksgiving event. We look forward to helping prepare and serve a delicious dinner, and know this will be a great experience for diners and volunteers,” stated Jim Peckham, on behalf of FISH.
