For more than 20 years, disc golf courses have been sprouting up in communities throughout country. At Lake Tahoe, the skilled yet laid back sport that requires keen eyes, solid aim and proper throwing technique is all the rage with well-attended competitive tournaments held at several courses every summer and fall.
The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department now hopes residents will throw their support and get into the game by proposing two 18 hole tournament courses and one 9-hole course set on 129 acres off of Flint Drive. There will be a public meeting regarding the course on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bonanza Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.
The city says it doesn't have the funding to develop or maintain the concept at this time, but it hopes to designate the property for a future disc course complex, and getting the land designated for the course is a good first step.
Those who are unable to attend the meeting and would like to comment on the proposal can send them to Vern L. Krahn, Park Planner at VKrahn@carson.org with the subject line titled "Disc Golf Course" or by mail to the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, 3303 Butti Way, Building No. 9, Carson City, Nev. 89701.
Comments must be received no later than Monday, Nov. 25 to be included in the Parks and Recreation Commission packet for its Tuesday, Dec. 3, meeting.
