Meet up with your neighbors at Mills Park on Tuesday, August 6 for the 11th annual National Night Out at Mills Park hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. is aimed to heighten awareness about crime, substance abuse, safety and violence. Citizens can learn what they can do to reduce crime and increase personal safety, while having fun. Meet the heroes of law enforcement and public safety. Explore equipment. The event is free - games, music, food, fun for all.
National Night Out is designed to:
— Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
— Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;
— Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships
— Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out helps citizens get informed on ways to protect themselves and prevent crime. Tips that we tell citizens daily include: increase lighting, be aware of solicitors, never allowing unexpected and uninvited strangers in your home, know where your children are and who they are with, etc. Increased lighting reduces the risk of crime, so citizens are invited to turn their porch lights on, lock their doors and spend the evening at Mills Park with law enforcement, public safety agencies and their neighbors.
