With April unemployment stats showing more Carson City residents finding employment following statewide recessionary woes from 2008 to 2011, the hope of more hiring opportunities will be in the spotlight today, Friday, at a second Carson City job fair.

Around 50 employers will be on hand from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Among the employers will be those representing area casinos, local manufacturers, home health, home improvement outlets, department stores, retail, banking, staffing agencies and restaurants.

"This is an exciting event for Carson City, for job seekers and our local employers. It will be one of the largest job fairs of its kind the city has ever had," said Lynn Ellis, WorkForce Program Case Manager for Carson City Health and Human Services.

Carson City's unemployment rate fell to 10.1 percent in April and is now the only metro area in the state to have a double digit unemployment rate, according to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

A similar job fair in February brought 36 employers and 619 job seekers who landed at least 43 jobs.

If job seekers plan to attend the job fair, Ellis recommends prospective employees "dress to impress, bring several copies of their resume and treat the fair as a job interview."

The Carson City Community Center is located at 851 E. William St. and is easily accessible from Highway 395, Highway 50 and Roop Street.
