— Tuesday Morning Walk to Mexican Ditch - South hosted by Muscle Powered. 9 a.m. Come and join Muscle Powered for its weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meet in the Hidden Meadows trailhead parking area at 965 Buzzy's Ranch Road. Dirt trail. Water and closed-toe shoes required. All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.
— Nevada State Children's Home experience featured at state archives monthly brown bag lunch. 12 Noon. The Nevada State Library and Archives Brown Bag Lunch and Archives Appetizer talk for November will be with Bonnie Boice Nishikawa who will share memories of her childhood in the Nevada State Children's Home, where she lived with her brother and sister from 1942-1955. The "Home", also known as fondly as "Sunny Acres," operated in Carson City for nearly 120 years, providing shelter and stability for Nevada's disadvantaged children. The event is Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Nevada State Library and Archives, 100 North Stewart Street, No. 100 in Carson City.
— November is Diabetes Awareness month. Throughout the month, Carson Tahoe Health will be hosting a variety of FREE classes and events to raise awareness and offer support. All classes and events will be located at the Health & Wellness Institute (1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250). Tuesday, Nov. 13th classes: Noon – 1 PM Foot Health & Diabetes, Dr. Keith Card; 1 – 2 PM Diabetes Awareness Walk.
— Free informative talk for victims of violent crime who are navigating the justice system. 5:30PM. This free event will take place at 6Weekworkout Studio in Carson City. 3476 Executive Pointe Way. — Tuesday Evening Conditioning Hike to Carson City Freeway Multi-Use Path hosted by Muscle Powered. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet in the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center's (MAC) parking lot, 1860 Russell Way. All hikes start at 5:30 PM. For the winter, these hikes are moving onto paved paths in town and will be 3-5 miles long and with duration of about 1-1/2 hours. Water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required. PLEASE BRING A FLASHLIGHT because it is dark on these walks.
Five-day video clinic to stop smoking. As a lead-up to the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout, a free 5-day Stop Smoking Video Clinic will be hosted by Doctor Arthur Weaver. The five night video series runs Sunday thru Thursday, Nov. 11-15, at 7 p.m. each evening in the Carson City SDA Fellowship Hall – 405 College Parkway, Carson City. If you know someone who is in need of putting the tobacco addiction behind them, please help them find us for this very important clinic. The goal is to stop smoking now.
— Carson Fly Fishing Club Meeting. 7 p.m. The monthly meeting of the Carson Fly Fishing Club is Nov. 13, 7 p.m. Come to our club gathering and meet fellow fishing enthusiasts; listen and learn from guest speakers; enjoy a chance to win a prize in the raffle; hear the latest fishing stories, and much more. — Mile High Jazz Band With Jakki Ford Tuesday at Carson City's Living the Good Life. 7:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening of big-band music with vocalist Jakki Ford on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Living the Good Life Bistro, 1480 N. Carson Street in Carson City. Admission is free and donations are greatly appreciated.
The program, November Jazz, presents the 17-member Mile High Jazz Band playing favorite and new big-band songs, including “Time Check” and “The Song is You,” with sax, trumpet, and drum solos. Jakki Ford will be featured in “Just Friends,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “The Man I Love,” and more. Trumpet player Wayne Theriault, best known for his imaginative instrumental solos, will sing his own arrangement of “Give Me the Simple Life.”

Two separate 3 week programs are offered w/a one week break (Thanksgiving) between the two. We focus on strength, dynamic balance and stability, and muscular endurance (yes, that means cardio!) as they relate to winter sports and activities like snow-mobile excursions, snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding, and all the Nordic and back country activities on your list.
— Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement. 11 to 6 p.m. The Charlie B Gallery is proud to announce the coming of a ceramic celebration art show and sale: “Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement.” The gallery will offer many works created by Patricia Ann Probst (1941-2016). — Veterans Outreach Center Clothing Donation Drive, Nov. 4-11, at the Western Nevada College Veterans Resource Center, third floor of the Cedar Building, as well as on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, first floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union, second floor of the Knowledge Center, and second floor of the Pennington Student Achievement Center. Accepting donations of underwear, gloves, socks, toilet paper and reading glasses.
— Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.
— The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) presents the annual Nevada Day Art Show, now through Nov. 30. Entries in all categories are judged with cash prizes awarded to winners. The NAA Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
— Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently seeking individuals and pairs interested in leading interpretive programs in one of our many parks and open spaces. Interested individuals and pairs are encouraged to apply. If interested, go here.
— Carson City Art Gallery features Show by Erik Holland. 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the artwork of Erik Holland. He has worked as an artist his entire adult life. He started painting murals in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 1990's. He then moved to Reno, Nevada, achieving his dream of living in the high desert. He has had a one man show in Reno every year since 2001. The show was born on a desire to depict the many sides of America. Amerika is spelled with a K to denote concern with our troubled times. The images come from the life of artist Erik Holland, starting in 1980, when he painted "Spirit of the Eighties" The show is in fact a retrospective of the artist's life from 1980 to the present. — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others.
