Two men were arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of obstructing officers investigating a possible burglary at a church in the 400 block of Clear Creek Avenue, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a counselor at the church said that at around 10 p.m. he arrived at the facility on business. As he entered the parking lot, he saw a Isuzu Trooper parked in the parking lot and observed a white male running from the church, getting into the rear passenger seat which then sped away.
The witness said he observed three adult males in the green or blue older model vehicle but was unable to see the license plate because it was dark. A deputy found the vehicle matching the description approximately a mile away from the church. The witness agreed to accompany an officer in which he positively identified the vehicle, a blue Isuzu parked at 47 Clear Creek Avenue.
At 11:30 p.m. deputies attempted to make contact with the occupants of the apartment. Initially they did not answer the door. They were seen through an open window hiding on the kitchen floor, according to the arrest report. A deputy identified himself as a sheriff’s deputy and both men came out of the residence.
The two identified themselves and agreed to speak separately with deputies. The 29-year-old suspect was confrontational with the officer. He said he wouldn’t speak and then denied being at the church and said that he had recently returned from Walmart with the other suspect, age 24.
When the officer asked the 24-year-old suspect what they were up to, he told the officer they had returned from Walmart and had dropped a friend off at a nearby church.
The deputy then spoke with the 29-year-old suspect, who said he forgot to tell the officer about the church and meeting his friend at the church where he was dropping off paperwork. Deputies found the stories to be inconsistent. Both were arrested on charges of obstructing and delaying an officer investigation. Bail: $412 each.
