Power outage affects 3,200 customers in north Carson City

UPDATE 6:23PM: KTVN reports on its Facebook page most of the customers affected by Saturday's power outage in Carson City have had their power restored. Crews are still working to restore power to the areas that remain, but say it could still take several hours.

UPDATE 2:33PM: About 3,200 NV Energy customers are without power Saturday afternoon in north Carson City after a canopy blew into a power line causing it to arc.

The line was reported down at Winnie Lane and North Carson Street and has been out since around 1:30 p.m. NV Energy crews on scene from Reno report to Carson City dispatch the power could be out for as many as four hours.

NV Energy spokeswoman Stefanie McCaffrey said it is unknown at this time how long the power will remain out. She urges customers who may be dealing with heat-related issues to see cooler locations such as swimming pools, movie theaters or restaurants.

An arcing power line was reported this afternoon in the 1900 block of North Carson Street in Carson City causing an outage in the area.

NV Energy has been notified and shut off the power in the affected areas. The outage was reported to dispatch at 1:34 p.m. Carson City Fire Department and the sheriff's office have responded to deal with traffic control issues.

Carson Street at Winnie Lane is reportedly without power as is Carson Street and College Parkway.

Deputies are re-routing traffic from the downed line.
