Serving hungry Carson City residents and visitors breakfast and lunch since 1980, the Cracker Box restaurant has received the coveted TripAdvisor Award of Excellence for 2013. The award recognizes restaurants that consistently receive high ratings from travelers and that rank in the top performing 10 percent of business worldwide.
Jerry Massad, who has owned and operated the Cracker Box diner for more than 33 years, says the honor was a pleasant surprise.
“I’ve been in the restaurant business my entire life, and I do it because I love it, so to get this award is a nice bonus.” He adds that it’s also a testament to his staff, “when I read the reviews very often the customer points out the service, or a particular server or cook, we wouldn’t be here for more than three decades without a great bunch of people.”
The Cracker Box has topped many “best of” lists over the years, including being named Best of the West by the readers of AAA’s Via Magazine.
Massad says the awards are nice, but customers matter most, “if they are happy, then we are happy. We like to say the only thing better than our food, is our customers, and it’s true.”
Massad has been the only owner and operator since it opened in May of 1980. Despite a tough economy, the Box, as it’s often called, continues to thrive. Massad believes the focus on great food, friendly service and reasonable prices keep customers coming back.
The Cracker Box is located at 402 E. William Street in Carson City and is open 7 days a week from 6am to 2pm.
