Fourteen vehicles were involved in a crash Wednesday morning on southbound Highway 395 between McCarran and Oddie Boulevard in Reno, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. One person was injured.
The crash happened at 6:43 a.m. and caused traffic delays. According to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen, the chain of events began when five vehicles were involved in a collision in the left lane of the south bound travel lanes.
Moments later, nine more motorists failed to reduce the speed of their vehicles or swerved to miss the stalled vehicles and collided as well. In all, a total of 14 vehicles were involved resulting in two of the three travel lanes to be blocked. One motorist reported an injury and was not transported from the scene, Allen said.
Agencies that responded to assist were personnel from the Reno Police Department, REMSA, Reno Fire Department and the Nevada Department of Transportation. At least four of the involved vehicles had to be towed from the scene. A second travel lane was cleared and re-opened around 7:50 am, and the entire scene was cleared around 8:30 a.m.
As a traffic safety reminder, motorists should always maintain a safe following distance with other vehicles and pay attention to their driving at all times, said Allen.
