Sandoval Vetoes Ward Voting Bill

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval vetoed his second bill this session on Tuesday, which will allow voters in Henderson, Reno, Carson City and Sparks to continue electing public officials via citywide elections.

If signed, SB457— named the “Ward Voting” bill — would’ve allowed residents to vote only for candidates representing ward the voter lives in.

In his veto statement, Sandoval said he rejected the bill because it directly conflicted with what the constituents in the areas that would be affected by the bill wanted.
