Many state lawmakers made their mark during this session and will be remembered for the meaningful bills they pushed for in the Nevada Legislature.
Sen. Aaron Ford, D-Las Vegas, along with the legislation he created and supported, also made his mark with his fashion choices throughout the session. Ford was rarely seen walking in the Nevada legislative building without his trademark bow tie during the session.
“In ’06 I took a trip to Serbia and one of the tour guides took us to a bow tie shop, and I bought a bunch of clip on ties,” Ford said. “Now I tie my own.”
He kept it classy throughout the session and made such on impact on his colleagues and friends, that his fellow legislators wore bow ties as well during his birthday to honor him.
“It’s the best form of flattery,” Ford said of his colleagues imitating him. “I wore a straight tie that day and everyone had bow ties on.”
It’s safe to say that Ford will also be remembered for his film tax credit bill, SB165, which brought actor Nicolas Cage to the Legislature to testify in support of the legislation.
The bill passed in the Assembly on Monday night with a vote of 27-14. But Ford is proud of all the legislation he’s worked on and said that having his bills passed was his biggest success of the Legislature.
“Six of my seven bills have passed and been signed by the governor,” Ford said. “Knowing that I have come here and done my job is my greatest success.”
