A bill that would protect victims of human trafficking was approved 41-0 Thursday by the Nevada Assembly.
The bill requires officers to take certain actions when they encounter possible victims of human trafficking. It also requires the state Department of Education to develop and distribute material relating to the trafficking of children.
Assemblyman John Hambrick, R-Las Vegas, read the bill on the Assembly floor.
“This will be the last bill you will hear this session discouraging human trafficking,” Hambrick said. “AB338 gives resources to educators, schoolteachers, nurses and counselors. It will also help the Department of Education give out resources; it will give law enforcement guidance in how to deal with those who have suffered.”
The next step for the bill is to go through the Senate.
