From the story posted in Carson now regarding the Carson Middle School Lockdown:
"This event acts as a reminder to parents that when incidents like this occur, the first law enforcement priority is the safety of the students and faculty inside the school. The second critical priority is to get information out to the parents (and public) on how to expect safe reunification with their children.”
Why did I not receive a call from any school official or Public Safety official as "to expect safe reunification with my child?" While waiting outside the school with other frightened an confused parents I found out that no parents received "The second critical priority is to get information out to the parents (and public) on how to expect safe reunification with their children.”
We the Parents found out from news reports, friends calling to see if their child is ok, or in social media reports. There is nothing more terrifying then finding out from the news and hours later that your childs school is on lockdown because of a weapons on campus threat and not knowing what to do, who to call, and how to find out if their child is safe. I have no doubt the school staff, teachers and Public safety officals kept my child safe. And I am ever so grateful to my daughters teacher for knowing and implimenting the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of my daughter and her classmates.
In my opinion "The second critical priority " needs to be looked at more closely. I was in line outside the school for close to an hour waiting to get my daughter, I only knew what to do because I overheard other parents say they are letting parents in by grade level to pick up their child. During this time, no call from anyone to say I need to pick my child up from school. No calls at all. Yes I as a parent would like to know when there is an emergency at my childs school and what I need to do.
