Washoe School Tax Bill Passes Assembly 32-8

A bill that raises the sales and property taxes in Washoe County to fund its schools passed the Assembly 32-8 Tuesday afternoon. AB46 successfully passed its required two-thirds vote —from the initial proposal— in the Assembly. All who voted against AB46 were of the GOP party.

This follows Monday’s reached amendment that gives Washoe County commissioners to power to raise the tax rates. The bill aims to raise the county sales tax rate by one-quarter of 1% and property taxes by 5-cents per $100.

AB46 now heads to Senate.
