A new and free 7-12 grade public secondary charter school in Carson City, The Nevada Performance Academy, will open in August. There will be a creative emphasis on academic requirements informed by the performing arts.
Licensed teachers and professional artists will work with students, both face-to face and with an on-line, blended distance education program. The use of art to inform academics is well established in research literature and TPA students will benefit enormously from this unique and creative approach to their education.
The NPA has entered into partnership with the Brewery Arts Center, Western Nevada College, and the Carson City Knowledge Center (Public Library). Students will work with the staff in these institutions to explore projects they love. The special projects and may also lead to work opportunities in which they can make a good living.
