The public will have an opportunity to dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs during a Prescription Drug Roundup beginning at 10 a.m. today at the following locations:
Save Mart, 4348 South Carson Street
Save Mart, 3325 Highway 50 East
Save Mart, 3620 North Carson Street
Smith's, 599 East Williams Street
Prescription Drug Roundups are a collaborative effort by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, Partnership Carson City and other organizations. Medicines that remain in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses caused by these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.
