High Sierra Swing Dance contest 'celebs' prepare for big night

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

The evening will also include a buffet dinner, a dance performance by Susan Brown and Jeffrey Munson, and open dancing to a variety of music. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased or reserved by April 20; no tickets will be sold at the door. Ticket are available at Yaple's Ballroom, Artsy Fartsy Gallery and The Purple Avocado.
