Local members of the Carson Valley Quilt Guild took the challenge to create quilted wall hangings that celebrate Nevada’s sesquicentennial, 150 years since statehood. The wall hangings are now on display at the Dayton Branch of the Lyon County Library System.

The quilting project challenged the quilters to create a wall hanging that was small in size and utilized two selected fabrics as part of the quilt. The quilters also had to represent the theme of “Nevada, then and now—150 years of Statehood.”

Dayton quilter, Sheri Smith noted, “The challenge was tough but fun, it forced us to think about our Nevada heritage and then decide how to best portray Nevada’s past and present in a quilted wall hanging.”

“We are very proud of our local quilters and their participation in promoting our Nevada heritage,” stated Summer Bell, Dayton Branch Library Manager. “Our patrons comment as to how much they appreciate seeing the quilts hanging in our lobby.”

The quilted wall hangings are on display in the library lobby until July 26. You can also view the hangings on the Dayton Library’s Facebook page.
