Judge issues restraining order to halt campaign ads by Nevada Senate candidate Schmidt

A Washoe County District Court Judge Friday ordered Gary Schmidt, Republican candidate for Senate District 16, to stop running an ad in his campaign advertising in which his opponent said was not true.

Judge Patrick Flanagan issued a preliminary injunction halting the broadcast of one of Schmidt’s advertisements until further hearings could be conducted on a defamation lawsuit Senator Ben Kieckhefer filed based on what he said was a false attack.

Senate District 16 covers Carson City and southern Washoe County.

Schmidt has been falsely claiming Kieckhefer “supported and endorsed” Harry Reid in 2010. Schmidt bought television advertising making the assertion. See the temporary restraining order below.
