This past Monday, area bartenders, mixologists, and industry insiders descended upon the Reno Aces Stadium for the Wirtz Beverage Craft Spirits and Specialty Expo. Six people, chosen at random, competed in an Iron Style Cocktail Competition: 10 minutes to create a beverage for the 4 US Bartenders Guild judges. Steven Sedillos, Adele's server and bartender/mixologist at The Blue Bull, tied for first place with his Basil-Berry Sparkler (recipe below). The top two contenders faced off in a 5 minute Sudden Death Match, this time with the required ingredient: carrot juice. Sedillos emerged victorious, earning a trophy, nice check, and bragging rights. Stop by the Cafe at Adele's for dinner or The Blue Bull for a Friday/Saturday night cocktail and tell Steve 'Congrats!'
Basil-Berry Sparkler
1.5 oz Silver Rum
2 Strawberries
5 Basil leaves
Add
1oz simple syrup
.75oz fresh lemon juice
Shake, pour into glass
Float 2oz sparkling wine on top and ENJOY!
