Natalie Wood to lead Nevada Parole and Probation Division

Natalie Wood, a training division commander for the Nevada Department of Public Safety was appointed chief of the Division of Parole and Probation. She replaces Bernie Curtis who retired last month. Wood began her duties Monday.

Chief Wood joined the Department of Public Safety in 1999. She began with the Division of Parole and Probation, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before transferring to the Training Division as the Commander.

A formal promotional ceremony will be held at a later date. Meanwhile, the Nevada Highway Patrol has promoted Lieutenant Andy McAfee to the rank of Captain which took place May 5 at the NHP office building in Reno.

Lieutenant McAfee has served with the Department for over 20 years and joined the Nevada Highway Patrol as a Trooper in January of 1994 where his first duty station was Winnemucca. He transferred to Elko in 2000 then to Carson City in 2002.

In March 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and supervised troopers in Reno and background investigators in Carson City. After a 2 year assignment in NHP personnel, he transferred to the DPS Training Division in Carson City where he promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 2006. Lieutenant McAfee left the Training Division in 2009, returning to NHP, working out of Reno as an operations commander since that time.

Captain Andy McAfee will be assigned to the Nevada Highway Patrol-Northern Command West area out of Reno where he will oversee the daily operations of all traffic functions and personnel in the Reno, Carson City, and Tahoe areas. Captain McAfee is replacing newly promoted Major Susan Aller-Schilling, the Deputy Chief of NHP’s entire Northern Command group.
