SoccerFest 14, billed as the biggest pick-up game on Earth, will be held Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lampe Park in Gardnerville.
Local players from Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties will join fellow AYSO players from throughout the region as part of a nationwide event that will take place in hundreds of communities. This year's SoccerFest is part of AYSO's 50th anniversary celebration.
AYSO's SoccerFest is a fast, fun tournament format where kids play on a one day team, making new friends and trying new soccer moves. With the tournaments being held nationwide the hope is to set a world record for the biggest soccer pick-up ever. The cost is $10 per player. AYSO and non-AYSO players welcome. Go here for more information.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. Games will be played between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Participation medals to the first 100 players registered.
The event comes a week after hundreds of players and dozens of teams gathered in Carson City for the 21st annual AYSO Comstock Shootout Soccer Tournament held at Edmonds Sports Complex. The AYSO girls tournament was held April 12-13.
An interesting note about last weekend's Carson City tournament: A Rapid Falls, Idaho AYSO team rented out the new Soccer 4 You store for a night where the team held video game and foosball tournaments after spending the day playing on the field. Click through to see some photos of that event.
Soccer 4 You representatives will be at Saturday's AYSO event with a booth. Players, parents and teams are urged to stop by.
Bounzity will also have bounce houses the entire day out at Lampe Park. Admission is $3 for kids participating in the event, and $5 for non-participants. Lampe Park is located at 1325 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.
