Dozens of boys soccer teams from Nevada, California and Idaho are in Carson City this weekend for the second round of the 21st annual AYSO Comstock Shootout Soccer Tournament.

Hosted by the Carson City American Youth Soccer Organization Region #140 and Carson Futbol Club, the weekend tournament at Edmonds Sports Complex brings hundreds of players from three states to compete in a series of shootout competitions. It is recognized as one of the largest competitions of its kind in region, said tournament director Molly Walt.

This weekend is the second round of the annual tournament. The AYSO girls tournament was held April 12-13.

The Comstock Tournament is organized and run by dedicated volunteers to provide affordable soccer to the youth in Carson City and help the economy in Carson City, said Walt.

The event also fares well for the local economy, with at least 90 teams traveling more 100 miles, staying overnight in motels and hotels in both the boys and girls tournaments, said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau.

There are 44 teams that have traveled under 100 miles and 11 Carson City teams participating over the four days in the two weekends. Participants traveling to Carson City spent an average of $118 per day for food and beverage, lodging, retail sales and entertainment during their stay.

“The Carson City business community received an estimated economic impact of over $2.2 million from this event," said Dunn.
