Minden Republican Assemblyman Jim Wheeler had two stents implanted on Saturday but his spokesman says it wasn't a result of a heart attack and the press was wrong to say he had one, according to a news release.
Nevada District 39 Assemblyman, Jim Wheeler, checked into the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Hospital early this Saturday morning after awakening with chest pains, said his press spokesman Steve Donahue.
Here is the news release:
Nevada District 39 Assemblyman, Jim Wheeler, checked into the Carson/Tahoe Hospital early this morning after awakening with chest pains. He underwent Angioplasty and had two stents implanted to open partially blocked arteries.
His cardiologist, Dr. Nathan Ho, said there didn’t appear to be any damage to Mr. Wheeler’s heart and indicated that the Assemblyman should be back to his normal schedule in about a week. Dr. Ho said that members of his Carson/Tahoe Cardiology Group will determine tomorrow morning whether Assemblyman Wheeler will be released tomorrow or early Monday.
Reports circulated earlier in the day that Wheeler had suffered a life-threatening heart attack proved to be inaccurate.
Mr. Wheeler’s quick action in getting to the hospital appeared to prevent any damage to his heart according to his doctor. Before the angioplasty procedure, Wheeler tweeted the following message to his followers: “Rumors of my death greatly exaggerated.
Just having some tests due to chest pain. Probably be out of here tomorrow!” Thanks to Dr. Nathan Ho and the Carson/Tahoe Hospital Cardiac-catheterization staff, Mr. Wheeler’s tweet will be reality very shortly, his campaign manager, Steve Donahue, said.
