Carson City man stopped for speeding arrested on weapon and warrant charges

A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the 1000 block of Roop Street on a gross misdemeanor charge of possessing a dangerous weapon and four lessor charges including two warrants for failure to appear in court.

According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to the Roop location to assist Sgt. Scott McDaniel on a traffic stop, where the man was stopped on suspicion of driving 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

A check of his license came back with two confirmed warrants, one out of the Nevada Highway Patrol and the other out of Lyon County for failure to appear in court, the arrest report states.

The man was also driving on a suspended license for the two failure to appear warrants. He was arrested at 1:37 p.m. based on the warrants, speed and driver's license violations and taken to jail.

During transport to jail the man became slightly uncooperative because he did not believe he deserved to be arrested and wanted to be taken to Lyon County or Reno where his warrants were out of, the arrest report states.

The arresting officer attempted to explain to the man that he was going to have to go to the Carson City Jail because because she was not allowed to transport warrants out of county. The man told the officer he hates the Carson City Sheriff's Office and they are all horrible, the arrest report states.

During the pre-booking process the arresting officer was contacted by another deputy at the scene of where the man was stopped and was advised the man had a metal ASP Baton in his driver's side door pocket.

When the man was told what was found in his driver's side door he said to the deputy: "so I knew it was there." The officer explained the baton is considered a dangerous weapon, a gross misdemeanor. The man said he put the baton in the car, but that the baton belonged to his son.

He was arrested on the following charges: possession of a dangerous weapon, two counts failure to appear in court, speeding 16 to 20 over and driving on a suspended license. Bail: $5,546.

In other arrests:

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday, 8:52 a.m. on a contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court.

According to the arrest report, a deputy on motorcycle patrol observed a Dodge Avenger traveling south on Roop Street at an accelerated rate of speed. The officer visually estimated her traveling at 40 mph in a clearly posted 25 mph zone. Using his radar, it showed the Dodge going 37 mph, the arrest report states.

The officer ran a check of her license which came back as has having a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court, issued March 24, 2014 for failure to appear to pay fines or restitution as ordered by the court. Bail: $390.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
