It was the first live action of the year for the University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack as they hosted themselves Saturday in a scrimmage at Carson High School in Carson City.

Building excitement for the season has its advantages, said Nick Rolovich, the Pack's offensive coordinator.

"It's important to engage the community and get everybody excited early," said Rolovich. "We are going the right way everyday and playing for each other. We expect everything these athletes have next season and we know for a fact that they will leave it all on the field next fall."

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada seized the opportunity to have a little field trip of their own. Andrew Johnson, program director of the club, thought it was a great idea for the kids to go see the pack play.

"A lot of the kids don't have the opportunity to go see UNR play.""It's important to show them (the kids) that eating healthy and staying active can be some great attributes to being happy."

After the scrimmage, tight-end coach Cheston Blackshear said there are areas in need of improvement.

"I saw good and bad things on both sides of the ball. What is important to know is that the game isn't today. We will improve greatly before the regular season starts."

When asked what the key to success would be for this year's season and he said, "We need everybody to step-up and give it their all. It is important to have the leadership from the older guys and we can expect that."

All in all the event was a great way to get everybody excited about the upcoming season and give all of the players a good first look at live gameplay.
