Thunderstorms are possible today with lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.
A low pressure system moving toward the southern California coast will push unstable air north, producing a chance for showers and thunderstorms over the Eastern Sierra and far western Nevada, according to the weather service. The storms will likely remain along and west of Highway 395 and south of Interstate 80.
The weather services switched its forecast around late Friday morning and now says it is unlikely there will be rain or thunderstorms on Saturday.
"Conditions are not as favorable for storms to develop on Saturday, with only a 15 percent chance of seeing thunderstorms in the Sierra south of Highway 50," according to the weather service.
A second low pressure system may bring showers and colder weather conditions for the middle of next week.
