The Wild West Motorsports Park will host two Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series events this summer, showcasing northern Nevada as a premier racing site and giving fans double the action.
The Lucas Oil Series announced that Wild West Motorsports Park will host weekend races May 30-31 in addition to the race planned for Aug. 22-23. This is the third year in a row Wild West Motorsports Park has hosted a Lucas Oil Off Road Race and the first time there has been two races in one season.
“We’ve been received very well in the northern Nevada community,” said Ritchie Lewis, Lucas Oil Series Director. “We’re very thankful for that. We have a huge investment in the Wild West Motorsports Park and enjoy our partnership in Reno.”
Fans have come to enjoy watching Brian Deegan, Jeremy McGrath, Carl Renezeder, Rodrigo Ampudia and the top racers of the sport reach speeds of 90 MPH and jump 100-plus feet through the air in 900 horsepower trucks.
“This is huge news for race fans in northern Nevada,” said Norm Dianda, chairman and founder of Q&D Construction, who owns Wild West Motorsports Park. “We’re proud to host the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series not only once but twice.”
One of the newest plans for both races is the addition of lights and nighttime racing. Lewis said this is both beneficial to the fans and the drivers.
“It correlates back to old-school Friday and Saturday night racing that happened all across our country,” Lewis said. “It works out well for fans having the races at night, especially in August. It’s a good family experience.”
The news of the second Lucas Oil Off Road Race comes about three weeks after the announcement of the Silver State 4WD and ATV Jamboree, which is set for July 14-19 at the Wild West Motorsports Park. Wild West Motorsports Park is located only 10 minutes east from downtown Reno.
The 10,000-seat Wild West Motorsports Park opened in 2012 as the only track in northern Nevada on the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. The track is known for its professional racing of off road trucks, buggies and karts and is one of the fastest and most exciting tracks on the circuit. It provides a spark of economic growth to northern Nevada hotels, restaurants and other local businesses. The Park is located about 10 minutes east of downtown Reno off Interstate 80.
