High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its seventh-annual
Spring Ball dinner-dance on April 26 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N.
Carson St., Carson City.
no-host cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and continues with dance performances
at 6:30, buffet dinner at 7, open dancing 8-11 pm to West Coast swing,
nightclub two-step, country two-step, waltz and Latin tunes. Raffle
prizes of tickets to dance conventions and of services and goods from
local merchants and individuals will be awarded throughout the
evening. The last day to purchase tickets is April 19.
A variety of dance styles will be highlighted in the cabaret. Matthew
Leszczenski and Shanna Porcari-Nysen, of the Bay Area, will perform a
West Coast swing number. Porcari-Nysen has been competing in West
Coast swing since 2009, and has taught ballroom and Latin dancing
since 2006. Leszczenski has been dancing West Coast Swing since 2011,
and has a background in technical theater, music, figure skating and
social ballroom dancing.
Jonah Deitz and Michelle Crozier, of San Jose, Ca., will also perform
a West Coast swing number. Crozier started dancing ballroom at a
Monterey, Ca., studio and became an instructor at age 16. She is now
an instructor for Dance Boulevard in San Jose. Deitz began dancing at
a ballroom studio in 2005, and has competed in Latin and Standard
dance contests.
Namira will perform a traditional Egyptian dance. She has performed
Middle Eastern-style dances since 2004. Her dance specialty is Modern
Egyptian, a fusion of traditional Egyptian style, classical ballet and
modern dance. She is the director and choreographer for the
award-winning Middle Eastern Dance groups Jaouahir Tahoe and for Diva
Latina. She is the producer and director of the annual Jewel of the
Sierra Belly Dance Competition and teaches classes in Carson City in
ballet, Zumba, Pilates, and belly and Latin dance.
Diva Latina, a women's Latin dance group, will perform a Bachata
fusion dance, choreographed by Namira. She will be joined by Nikki
Munger, Cecilia Gasca and Lilliam Camacho DeJesus.
A burlesque number will be presented by Emily Judkins, of Reno; Amy
Hadrich, a 3-year veteran dancer of many styles and Zumba instructor;
Jo Ann Grace, longtime Carson City Latin dance instructor and West
Coast swing dancer; Idie Zaman, a Carson City West Coast swing and
salsa dancer; and Lisa Huffman, of Carson City, a dancer of West Coast
swing, ballet and tap who will perform in Western Nevada College's
Musical Theater production of "Chicago" in May.
