These mule deer were among a herd of 19 foraging along John and Curry streets in Carson City early Monday morning.
With the arrival of spring Carson City's population of mule deer are on the move for fresh flowers, leaves and bulbs popping up around the neighborhoods, especially along the west side.
Mule deer move between various zones from the forest edges at higher elevations to the valley floor depending on the season, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. However these deer appear to belong to one of a handful of local herds that remain stationary in Carson City. One deer in the herd on the move Monday morning was outfitted with an ear tag and radio collar.
Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen was the first to spot the deer as they had become dangerously close to Carson Street, next to Cafe at Adele's shortly before 8 a.m. He used his patrol vehicle to keep them moving away from the busy morning commuter traffic.
