The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a male who was killed after being struck by a train Friday afternoon near Pilot Travel Center in Fernley.
At around 2:45 p.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area for a report of a man who had been struck by a train, said Lyon County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jeremy Grundy. The person was found dead near the tracks.
Union Pacific train officials said the person was walking westbound on the tracks as they sounded their horn and attempted to stop the train, but they never moved and did not respond to the sound of the horn. The train was traveling westbound and male was struck from behind, said Grundy.
There incident remains under investigation.
