Another round of storms will impact the region, bringing more snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra by Saturday with another system moving in Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the greater Lake Tahoe area beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday and extending through early Sunday morning.

A modest atmospheric river will interact with an area of low pressure bringing periods of heavy rain and snow to western Nevada and northeastern California. Snow levels will start between 6,000 and 7,000 feet before dropping below 5,000 feet Saturday night, according to the weather service.

Areas above 7,000 feet will experience accumulating snow for the duration of the event, with 1 to 2 feet possible near the Sierra crest.

For western Nevada valleys, such as Carson City, Reno, Lyon and Douglas counties, much of the precipitation will fall as rain with snow levels only dropping to valley floors at the very end of the weather event on Saturday night. Light accumulation is possible above 5,000 feet with maybe a dusting down to the valley floors, according to the weather service.

Travel difficulties over Sierra passes are expected with chain controls likely to be in effect. A colder storm system will move into the Sierra on Monday with the potential for additional snow accumulations. Some models suggest snow levels as low as valley floors, but confidence in snow levels for Monday are low. Go here for the most up-to-date forecast.
