Employers and job seekers have been connecting this winter and spring through a number of initiatives including job fairs in Carson City, Lake Tahoe, an April 4 event planned in Douglas County and most recently through Nevada JobConnect.
A weeklong job quest campaign in Carson City received 1,047 job openings in a variety of industries from entry level to executive level jobs, well above the goal of 500 job openings set by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, said DETR Director Frank Woodbeck.
Earlier this year, dozens of business representatives gathered in Carson City in February for a job fair attended by several hundred people at the community center. The Feb. 21 event was sponsored by Carson City Health and Human Services, JOIN, Inc. and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. More recently there was a job fair at Lake Tahoe that brought more than 700 job seekers to Stateline to connect with employers.
In an effort to put more Nevadans back to work, Nevada JobConnect hosted a special campaign in Carson City, Douglas County, and Lyon County to get more employers to list their job openings with the state’s One-Stop Employment Centers.
Job Connect associates contacted more than 1,800 businesses. Ten business service associates in the Carson City area met with employers in hopes of developing partnerships that will lead to hiring opportunities for their companies.
“Nevada businesses showed once again their commitment to helping Nevadans get back to work,” Woodbeck said. “We are grateful for the support these businesses show in Nevada’s economic and workforce development efforts. This is a mutually beneficial relationship that ultimately serves our state well.”
Some of the services Nevada JobConnect offer employers include screening potential employees, on-site interviewing, and assistance with placement and training. Additionally, through the Governor’s Silver State Works program, employers can benefit from financial incentives for hiring unemployed workers.
Businesses that would like to learn more about these services should contact the Carson City JobConnect at 1929 N. Carson Street or call (775) 684-0400. Go to www.nevadajobconnect.com for more information.
Meanwhile, local businesses and job seekers can look forward to connecting opportunity with talent at the Carson Valley Job Opportunity Fair on April 4 from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda, Minden. At least 33 employers and agencies plan on being at this event.
