The Nevada Highway Patrol logged two DUI-related arrests Monday night in the Northern Command area that includes Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties during the evening hours of St. Patrick's Day, said Trooper Dave Gibson.
Carson City Sheriff's Office figures have not been released yet. The arrests were made in the Reno-Sparks area.
The low numbers may be attributed to a statewide NHP media campaign with the message that people celebrating St. Patrick’s Day should drink responsibly and not drink and drive and help keep the roadways safe. Most did just that, said Gibson.
Many people took advantage of the safer alternatives of drinking and driving. The RTC promoted free rides from 4pm until midnight and AAA also contributed by offering free tows to members and non-members to any destination so patrons would not have to drive home, said Gibson.
Also the NHP did not investigate any major or serious injury accidents during the same celebration hours in the Northern Command area, said Gibson.
