A double amputee Marine veteran, Rob Jones, will be in Carson City today and Wednesday as part of his efforts to cycle across America, raise awareness and to "pay it forward" to veteran organizations that helped him in his recovery.

The public is invited to meet Jones at a reception at the Hampton Inn, 10 Hospitality Way Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. He will have arrived after cycling from Fallon to Silver Springs on Highway 50. Jones cycles approximately 35 miles every day as part of the campaign. He lost his legs when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan in 2010.

Since then he has relearned how to ride a bicycle with prosthetic legs and he is now cycling across the country. On Oct 14, 2013, Rob began his journey in Maine and his final destination is California.

On Wednesday, Jones will continue cycling through Carson City and will stop for a meet and greet at the Nevada State Capitol beginning at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend. He will then be escorted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement to the Nevada, California state border.
