On the morning before the 30-month anniversary of his first election to the U.S. House, Congressman Mark Amodei of Carson City filed for reelection Wednesday at the Secretary of State’s office as a Republican candidate for Nevada’s 2nd District.
“It has been a busy 30 months advocating for the people of Nevada,” said Amodei in a news release. “I took the lead on moving legislation through the U.S. House focused on our public lands, agriculture, mining, tourism and veterans, with an overall eye on creating jobs in Nevada across all sectors of our economy, while also supporting the creation of 76,000 acres of wilderness.”
“I try to lead by example in Congress during tough economic times for all Nevadans. Since my election in September 2011, I have returned approximately $474,000 – more than 12 percent of my budget -- in unspent office funds to the U.S. Treasury to be applied toward deficit reduction,” said Amodei.
"In the face of a $17.3 trillion federal debt, I think it is a sign of basic respect to Nevadans to run a fiscally conservative office while offering the greatest possible service to my constituents at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers," said Amodei.
Amodei also continued his reputation as a workhorse rather than a show pony. According to the Brookings Institution, Amodei is one of the most productive members of the U.S. House, introducing 16 pieces of legislation in the 113th Congress and passing four bills out of the House, which ties him for ninth out of 435 representatives.
“Not many other people in this job can say that they have stood for the voters almost every 12 months for a performance review,” said Amodei. “I look forward to this next personnel session with my bosses – the people of Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District.”
