Carson City Sheriff's Office detectives arrested the fiance who was a passenger with Desiree Bragg the night Leonardo Cardoza, who is on trial for murder, allegedly rammed his minivan into the side of Bragg's mother's home, pinning and killing her.
Steven Gilbert Castro Jr., 20, was arrested in Yuba City, Calif., Tuesday where he is facing a felony charge of being a material witness avoiding testimony. Castro also faces a misdemeanor charge of being in violation of a suspended sentence out of Carson City Justice Court. That was filed Dec. 31, 2013.
The First Judicial District Court order dated Feb. 5 and filed Feb. 6, 2014 says that Castro "may be avoiding testifying before the court due to outstanding warrants both in Nevada and California and has avoided contact from the State and Defense in this matter." The alleged road rage incident happened Jan. 26, 2013. Cardoza is on trial for murder of the 19-year-old Carson City woman.
Castro is being held on $53,000 bail. The trial resumes today, 9 a.m., in First Judicial District Court.
