Karen Abowd, Supervisor Ward 1, filed for re-election on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, citing her desire to see through many projects currently in process, as well as her commitment to the future of Nevada’s Capital City.

“Carson City has gone through some tough economic times and continues to,” Abowd said. “We have needed to be careful in our planning and how we spend available dollars in order to create sustainable, relevant opportunities that have immediate positive impacts, and build a future we can be proud to leave our children and grandchildren.”

Abowd is president and founder of “The Greenhouse Project”, the driving force for Carson City’s Flower Basket Sponsorship Program, and formerly Vice Chairperson for the Carson City Cultural Commission. She currently sits on the Arts and Culture Commission, the board for the Carson City Visitors Bureau (CCVB), was a member of the Events and Marketing Committees for the CCVB and is the Redevelopment Authority Chair.

She has been an active mentor for her church’s youth for the last 19 years, and has been involved with Poverty and Economic Development CRT1, We Can, the Carson City Downtown Consortium Beautification, and Carson City’s School District Master Planning Community Relations Committee.

Abowd is also a commissioner for the Carson Water Sub-conservancy, a member of the Carson City Human Services Tripartite Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Cross-jurisdictional Sharing Project Stakeholders Committee for Environmental Health and a board representative for Nevada Works.
