Another winter storm is moving into the Sierra late tonight with heavy snow expected in the Sierra through Friday, especially south of Highway 50, according to the National Weather Service.
Low pressure will move into the Sierra late Thursday night and Friday bringing a period of rain and snow to western Nevada. The heaviest precipitation will occur in Douglas and southern Lyon counties Friday morning with rain and snow decreasing by the late afternoon.
Snow levels will fall to 5,000 to 5,500 feet for early Friday morning with a 2 to 5 inches of snow above 5500 feet. There is a chance snow levels will drop to the valley floors in Douglas County with light accumulations in Minden and Gardnerville below 5,000 feet.
Snow will bring slick roads to the following locations Friday morning:
Highway 395 south of Gardnerville to Topaz Lake
Highway 207 - Kingsbury Grade
Highway 338 south of Wellington
Highways 341 and 342 near Virginia City
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Mono County where 1 to 2 feet of snow is likely in the Sierra and 4 to 8 inches can be expected along and east of the Highway 395 corridor.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Lake Tahoe Basin and eastern Alpine County with 8 to 12 inches of snow above 7,000 feet and 4 to 8 inches around Lake Tahoe.
Up to 18 inches of snow is possible along the crest in Alpine County, including Carson Pass. Slick and hazardous roads along with delays and chain controls are likely throughout the Sierra, so plan for winter travel conditions tonight through Saturday morning.
