Carson City Supervisor Jim Shirk and dance partner Robin Kato were judged winners of Saturday night's Dancing with the Carson City Stars competition.
The roster of celebrity dancers who competed for the coveted trophy also includes Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and his wife Susan, Nugget Casino General Manager Star Anderson, meteorologist Jeff Thompson, Carson Tahoe Cancer Research Center Supervisor Ann Proffitt, Adele’s Restaurant & Lounge owner Charlie Abowd and Carson High School math teacher Jennifer Walls. Last year, Miss Carson City Vanessa Macias won the trophy along with partner Ivan Ochoa.
Many people contributed o the event, including Stacy Giomi, fire chief; local judges, Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s Stephanie Arrigotti, Gina Davis and Georgia Wright; and commentators Katie Grimm and Deb Doran.
The event is a benefit hosted by the nursing students of Western Nevada College and served as a fundraiser to help the students attend the National Student Nurses Association Convention April 9-13 in Nashville, Tenn. There, they will receive leadership and scholarship information, disaster preparedness training, and tips for taking the national nursing certification exam.
