WASHINGTON, DC — Richard L. Riley, a certified practitioner of prosthetics at Prosthetic Consulting Technologies LLC in Washoe Valley, will be inducted into the 2014 class of Fellows by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) during the organization’s 40th Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium on Friday, February 28 in Chicago. Riley is one of just 10 people in the nation to receive the distinction this year.

“The Fellow of the Academy designation is one of the highest honors in the orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) profession,” said Academy Executive Director Peter Rosenstein. “Only a small percentage of O&P practitioners have demonstrated the commitment to the highest level of patient care through the pursuit of continuing education and service to their community required to earn the Fellow designation.”

Riley has served as residency director at Prosthetic Consulting Technologies since 2010. He also provides testimony as an expert witness in prosthetics and has served as an officer for Disabled Sports USA. Riley also represented the U.S. for eight years as a member of the U.S. Disabled Nordic Ski Team. He has also written a book, Living with a Below Knee Amputation, published by Slack Inc. in 2005.

Academy Fellows, who must be certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC), are noted with the “FAAOP” credential after their names.

The Academy inducts Fellows each year at its Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium. The 41st Academy Annual Meeting will be held in New Orleans from February 18 through 21, 2015.
