Wanted sex offender nabbed by Carson City officers after chase through streets, neighborhoods

A 48-year-old transient wanted by authorities after violating conditions of parole as a sex offender was stopped Wednesday on a traffic violation and took off running from Carson City deputies resulting in a search through neighborhoods, businesses and an RV park.

Robert Lee Lyons Jr. was arrested at 7:13 p.m. in the 2400 block of Michael Drive. He faces a felony charge of violation of parole as a sex offender, and six misdemeanor charges, including obstructing police officers.

According to the arrest report, a patrol officer observed a maroon 1995 Chevrolet SUV leave a street behind a closed business, near an auto dealership[ in the 2500 block of North Carson Street.

The officer followed the vehicle and conducted a record check on the registration which revealed the registration to be suspended. The officer initiated a traffic stop north of the intersection of Winnie Lane and Carson Street. The driver of the vehicle did not yield to the lights and siren until it eventually stopped in the parking lot of CVS pharmacy, according to the arrest report.

The officer went to speak with Lyons who was acting nervous by shaking his hands and not making eye contact. He continued to make furtive movement by reaching into areas of his vehicle, the report states. The man was asked his name and his said "Robert. No. Wait, Christopher," according to the report.

The officer attempted to open the driver door to remove him, but the door wouldn't open. As the officer went to the passenger door to gain control of the man, he went to the passenger side of the vehicle opened it and fled northbound across Winnie Lane. The officer demanded the man stop but he kept on running, the report states.

The officer chased Lyons on foot noerthbound on Russett Way, through the parking lot at 250 Jeanell way, through the parking lot at local businesses to the west and the north side of an apartment building. He jumped over a fence into Camp-N-Town RV park. Other patrol officers then aided in the chase, setting up a perimeter.

The man jumped more fences where he then ran into Deputy Boggan and Sgt. Mays, the arrest report states. He was arrested and placed into cuffs. Lyons sustained a small laceration to his hands and face during the chase, that happened along icy roadways and jumps over fences. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then to jail.

A check of records showed that he had a felony warrant for violation of parole as a sex offender from Nevada Department of Public Safety and two warrants from the Carson District Attorney's Office. He has a no bail hold from DPS.
Bail amount for the local misdemeanor charges including two counts of violation of a suspended sentence, failure to stop when signaled by police, driving on a suspended license and registration and obstructing: $7,758.
