The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas program will benefit from the first annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive. Carson City area bars and taverns have been collecting toys since late November and will push for a final count this Sunday, Dec. 15, 6 p.m.

The Salvation Army officials will be “Bar Hopping” this Sunday afternoon and evening picking up toys and thanking everyone for their support of this Toy Drive.

Tommy’s Neighborhood Bar, Ed’s Dog House and Twisted Spoke have already turned in a significant number of toys. The bars and taverns that are participating are: Westside Pour House (formally Mo & Sluggo’s)-110 W Telegraph, MJ’s Sports Bar -3679 S. The winner and totals from each bar will be announced on the Carson City Salvation Army’s Facebook page.

Along with the familiar Red Kettles, the Angel Tree program is one of The Salvation Army's highest profile Christmas efforts. Through The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, food boxes and Christmas gifts are provided for disadvantaged children from infants to age 14. Angel Trees and Barrels are placed in area stores during the first part of November until December 23rd. Community members purchase items for children and return the gifts to the store where the angel tree or barrels are located.

Donations can be made at The Salvation Army’s 661 Colorado St. location up through December 24th.
